Humanitarian AI @ MIT

Humanitarian AI is launching a new initiative giving students from MIT and other universities advancing the field of artificial intelligence opportunities to work with community members on systematically tackling the most difficult challenges associated with powering, training and making AI applications operationally useful to humanitarian actors.

The initiative will concentrate on developing the infrastructure, code and training datasets students and community members need to plug into humanitarian data streams like IATI and the Humanitarian Data Exchange and carry out sophisticated research at scale and on initiating critical research filling knowledge gaps associated with building and training open data powered humanitarian AI applications.

As a signature project, the initiatives will run an IATI AI Competition challenging teams to develop ways popular digital assistants like Alexa, Cortana, Google Assistant and Siri can use IATI data to answer complex queries posed by humanitarian actors.
